There is something appealingly unassuming about this 1959 Ford Squire estate car. No faux timber sides (they dropped those in ’57), monotone beige paintwork and that good old 1,172cc side-valve engine valiantly propelling the whole plot. It is, to quote Professor Henry Higgins, “So deliciously low” - but in a nice way.
Based on the Ford 100E saloon car, the Squire was a practical piece of kit with two-piece tailgate, fold-flat rear seats, and simple rugged construction. Ford sold around 18,000 of them in the four years of production – how many do you see today?
WSJ 664 has no paperwork to accompany it other than the V5C and no knowing if the 45,156 recorded miles are the first or second time around. It is, however, a good solid little car in tidy but not concours condition, easy to maintain and ready for use. Ideal as a promotional vehicle for your boutique business, but ready, too , for classic camping weekends, shows, and fun-time use by the practical classic enthusiast and his family. We like it a lot...
