Grinnall Specialist Cars of Bewdley has been making radically re-engineered sportscars and trikes for over two decades. Owner Mark Grinnall established his reputation by making souped-up versions of the Triumph TR7 and TR8 in the late 1980s, followed by the highly rated BMW bike-engined Scorpion three-wheeler track day weapon in the 1990s. The latest addition to the range is the R3T, a high-performance trike tourer based on Triumph’s superb shaft-driven Rocket III motorcycle. It is powered by Triumph’s 2.3 litre fuel-injected three-cylinder engine which produces 146bhp and 163lb/ft of torque, sufficient to hurl you to 100mph in just 10 seconds with a top speed of over 120mph. A super-stiff chassis, sophisticated independent double wishbone rear suspension and massive disc brakes help to keep all this performance under control. With seating for two and plenty of luggage space, the R3T makes an exhilarating and highly individual tourer that can be ridden on a normal car driving licence (with or without a helmet) and only attracts the same road tax rate as a motorcycle.
This exciting Grinnall R3T is finished in red with black seats and polished custom wheels with lashings of sparkling chrome. The vendor purchased this tricycle in 2016 and it has been residing in his collection of classic cars ever since. Supplied with a V5C registration document and a MoT test certificate which expires in 2020, this 2004 Grinnall R3T has only covered 10,000 miles from new and is not for the shy and retiring! In excellent condition throughout and said to drive beautifully, this tricycle it is being offered at a considerable saving over the £23,000 list price of a new machine.

The London Taxi Corporation Ltd (trading as The London Taxi Company; formerly Manganese Bronze Holdings plc) is an automotive engineering company headquartered in Coventry, United Kingdom, and a wholly owned subsidiary of Chinese automaker Geely. It was founded in 1899 and its principal activity is the design, development and production of taxicabs. Over 130,000 London black cabs have been produced at the London Taxi Company's Coventry site over the past 60 years. Annual production averaged between 2,000 and 2,500 units per year. Around two-thirds of production goes into London via a dealership in Islington.
This London Taxi is a one owner vehicle and was used by a London hotel very sparingly, hence the 17,000 miles covered in eight years. She is finished in blue with a white roof and is trimmed in tan leather throughout, including the driver's seat. Fitted with the very long legged Mercedes-Benz 2.5 litre diesel engine, this Taxi has an automatic transmission and as always with these vehicles, they are easy to drive and offer great versatility. Presenting in virtually unmarked condition with a V5C registration document together with an MoT test certificate valid until 27th June 2019, this is a unique opportunity to purchase a well trimmed and low mileage London Taxi TX4.

1927 AJS Model H2 800cc Combination - BRIGHTWELLS AUCTIONS Wednesday 6th March 2019 Leominster Classic Motoring Auction Centre Easters Court, Leominster, HR6 0DE

FEATURED AUCTION

BRIGHTWELLS AUCTIONS

Leominster Classic Motoring Auction Centre

1927 AJS Model H2 800cc Combination
ColourLBlack
Registration Number: SV 9005
Chassis No.: HA 5208
Engine size: 799 cc
Engine No.: HA 5208
Documents: TBC
Estimate: £12,000 - £14,000

Joe Stevens from Wolverhampton built engines from 1897 but it was his sons Harry, George, Jack and Joe who produced the first complete AJS motorcycle at their father’s Stevens Screw Company factory in 1909.
Just three years after their first machine left the works, AJS had introduced their first large-capacity V-twin, a 631cc model that soldiered on relatively unchanged until the 998cc models in the ‘30s. In 1925, AJS introduced a lettering system that denoted year - in this case H for 1927 - and a model number – 2 in this case - which refers to cylinder capacity.
Usually sold as a Combination, as is the case here, the 799cc H2 was an excellent lugger which had plenty of go. By 1927 however, the days of Combinations were numbered as the price of mass-produced cars had fallen to such a level that buyers opted for more seats and better weather protection.
This, and the austere times of the late ‘20s caused financial troubles for AJS, who were forced to sell out to Matchless in 1931. Following the sale, the manufacture of AJS motorcycles moved from the Black Country to London and their individuality was lost as the two makes, Matchless and AJS, became a badge engineering exercise where two machines were produced in almost identical form but with different badging and paintwork.
This splendid example came into the vendor’s hands in 2002 in pretty much the form you see today. It had been the subject of a comprehensive restoration sometime before, retaining its original features and that ‘lightly used’ look of a quality older restoration.
Since then, it has had little use and has recently been treated to a comprehensive service at restoration experts Robin James Engineering in Leominster at a cost of around £500 to get it back to reliable running order.
