SATURDAY 7th JULY 2018
1963 Ford Cortina Mk. I 1500 Super
Reg. no. BHW 193A (originally 720 TAF)
Chassis no. t.b.a.
Engine no. t.b.a.
The Cortina was launched a few weeks before the London Motor Show of October 1962 with a 1198cc three-bearing engine, which was an enlarged version of the 997cc engine then fitted in the Ford Anglia. A few months later, in January 1963, the Cortina Super was announced with a five-bearing 1498cc engine. The car was designed to be economical, cheap to run and easy and inexpensive to produce in Britain.
This maroon and grey example has quite a complete service record, details of which are in the file. A Mr Hoskins was the original purchaser from Wincanton Garages, Helston, then Lawrence Gainey who, upon retirement from Devon to Wedmore near Axbridge had it looked after by Axbridge Motor Co. a Ford Dealership. They eventually purchased the car from him in 1991 as a showroom exhibit. The original service book, Ford Service Guide, schedule of maximum repair charges, owner\'s handbook, a V5c and various MOT certificates are with the car. When the current owner purchased the car in April 2000 it was sold to him with a warranted mileage; the speedometer is now reading 33,847 miles.
Extra details and estimates:
