HISTORICS @ BROOKLANDS AUCTIONS
SATURDAY 7th JULY 2018
Brooklands Motor Museum, Brooklands Rd, Weybridge KT13 0SL
- Very rare example
- Extremely well appointed
The Nissan President was a luxury limousine produced by Nissan from 1965 to 2010. The car was mainly used by corporate executives and government officials. It was a luxury saloon specifically aimed at the Japanese market, where its main competitor was the Toyota Century. The President was the flagship limousine and was sold at Nissan Motor store dealerships. Exports began to a few countries including Singapore and Hong Kong, though sales were limited. A North American version (called the Infiniti Q45) was produced from 1990 to 1996 and subsequently 2001 to 2006. The President was replaced by the Nissan Fuga in August 2010. When the President was introduced in 1965, it wore the ‘Nissan’ badge unlike other Nissan products at the time which were labelled Datsun. A variety of different trim levels were offered, which included a base 3.0-litre straight-six and a number of interior options. The one to have was the top-of-the-line Nissan President Sovereign V8. This meant a 4.4 litre overhead valve V8 lived under the hood and put 200 horsepower to the ground through a three-speed automatic transmission.
This Nissan is extremely well appointed and it is easy to see why these flagship Nissans were used by government ministers and VIPs. This example is thought to have been used by the Japanese ambassador in Melbourne. The button cushioned seats are electrically operated even in the rear and ample legroom is available. The 4400cc V8 engine is extremely smooth in operation and responsive in action although it should be stated this car is built for a comfortable and not a sporty ride. This luxury Nissan needs to be viewed to be fully appreciated.
