TODAY WE FEATURE
RICHARD EDMONDS AUCTIONS
ALLINGTON, nr CHIPPENHAM, WILTSHIRE SN14 6L
SATURDAY 14th APRIL 2018
1952 MG TD
Reg. no. YWG 547
Chassis no. TD14725
Engine no. XPAG/TD2/151447
The T-Type MGs were produced between 1936 and 1955, gaining in 1939 the
excellent XPAG 1250cc engine which proved to be the car’s greatest
strength, providing these lightweight 2-seaters with excellent
performance for the time. Post-war, as British manufacturers were forced
to ‘export or die’, the cars found great favour on the other side of
the Atlantic, American owners proving more than willing to put up with
the lack of creature comforts in exchange for a proper British sports
car experience. Of the T-Series models, the TD was the most advanced,
sharing a chassis with the Y-Type saloon and thus incorporating
independent front suspension. Nearly 30,000 were made, over 23,000 of
those being sold in the US.
This car, like many, was originally a US example – Ohio, specifically,
whence it was imported in 2016. Appearing not to have been used for a
long time, it has been treated to light restoration since its arrival
and is largely solid, and running. It comes with a V5c.
