ALLINGTON, nr  CHIPPENHAM, WILTSHIRE SN14 6L
SATURDAY 14th APRIL 2018

1969 MORRIS 1000 TRAVELLER
Registration No. TAC 286G
Chassis No. MAW5123806YM
Engine No. 8G162A557949

The Traveller version of the Morris 1000 was made available in 1953 with the unusual feature of an external structural ash frame for the rear bodywork. The frame was varnished rather than painted, becoming a highly visible feature of the body style. Travellers were built alongside the saloon model at Cowley minus their rear bodies. The half-completed cars were then shipped to the MG factory at Abingdon where the bodies (made in Coventry) would be mated to the chassis. This was because the main Cowley production lines were no longer fully equipped to deal with the now old-fashioned wooden framed bodies. We are told that this example has excellent woodwork and bodywork, with good paintwork, although there is some fading and some blemishes. In the 18 years of current ownership, the car has had much restoration work to the chassis and body including the replacement of the woodwork in 2008. Very few miles have been covered since this work was carried out; there are some bills in the file supporting work, in addition to a current MOT that expires in June and a V5c.

Extra details and estimates: £5,000 - 7,000
