As the sixth incarnation of Triumph’s famous TR line, the TR6 inherited much of its predecessor’s construction and mechanics, but the Karmann-inspired sharp and squared-off panelling was new and reflected popular taste in the late Sixties. A 2.5-litre six-cylinder engine powered the sports car superbly. By 1976, production was just shy of 92000 but of that number, some 83500 examples were manufactured for export to America.
Purchased as a restoration project by a retired engineer and TR Register member, this particular original UK right-hand drive TR6 has been the subject of a bare chassis and bodyshell photographic rebuild completed to a very high standard. We are informed that work has included repairing, shot blasting, respraying and rustproofing the chassis, and the dismantling of the body, with repairs carried out as required, as well as the replacement of the sill and wing panels and again, a thorough rustproofing. A full bare metal respray has been completed in the original colour; the mohair hood is described as excellent and the black interior is finished with new wool carpets and the seats have been rebuilt using new support foams.
The mechanics and electrics have been thoroughly checked (including the suspension and braking system), and parts replaced as necessary. The exhaust system is stainless steel and we are informed that the four tyres were recently renewed, as has the majority of the brightwork.
This exceptional TR6 is supplied with a history file containing a CD of restoration images, a vast amount of invoices, a quantity of MOT test certificates (dating back to 1976) and the V5C registration certificate.
