1970 MG MIDGET SUPERCHARGED
Registration Number: CYA 262J
Chassis Number: GAN587521G
The MG Midget Mk 3 was introduced in 1966, with a 1275 cc engine. The hydraulic system gained a separate master cylinder for the clutch. The hood was now permanently attached to the car, with an improved mechanism making it much easier to use, and minor facelift changes were made to the body trim in late 1969 with the sills painted black, a revised recessed black grille, and squared off taillights as on the MGB. The 13” "Rostyle" wheels were standardized, but wire-spoked ones remained an option.
In 1972 the square-shaped rear wheel arches became rounded, and also a Triumph steering rack was fitted, giving a gearing that was somewhat lower than earlier Midgets. A second exhaust silencer was also added in 1972. Alternators were fitted instead of dynamos from 1973 onwards. These round-arch cars started leaving the Abingdon factory in late 1971. Between 1966 and the 1969 facelift, 22,415 were made, and a further 77,831 up to 1974.
The MG Midget offered here has had thousands of pounds spent on it over the years by the vendor who describes it as a labour of love. The work includes a new Heritage body-shell modified with a MK 1 Midget dash and bucket seats. Complete new interior including radio, instruments, flick switches, seat belts, sound deadening and top quality carpets, including in the boot. New double duck hood, hood frame, half and full tonneau cover, plus a PVC waterproof hood cover for outside storage (great when away overnight). New windscreen and reconditioned frame, and the quarter lights have been re-chromed. The mechanicals have been heavily modified with the engine rebuilt and bored out to 1340cc, it has been supercharged and fully balanced. The engine block has been chemically cleaned. Lowered compression, JE dished Pistons (custom made), crank crack tested, engine rebuilt with Swifttune fast road cam, roller rockers, ported head modified for unleaded petrol, new valves etc. The exhaust manifold has been specially treated to reduce engine heat under the bonnet. There is an alloy radiator with all new hoses etc. New stainless steel exhaust by Maniflow. The gearbox has been fully rebuilt using the correct ratios and parts as per the original, making this a very rare gearbox.
Front and rear suspension fully modified with Frontline components. New wire wheels fitted. The car was assembled with stainless steel nuts and bolts where possible. The supercharger and low compression engine make this a very tractable car to drive.
PLEASE NOTE: This engine runs on EVANS COOLANT. Water must not be added to the radiator.
Note: This description is provided by the vendor and unless otherwise stated is 'Not Verified' by Barons or any person employed by Barons. Prospective purchasers are advised to satisfy themselves as to the accuracy of any statements made, whether they be statements of fact or opinion.
GUIDE PRICE: £5,500 TO £8,000
