  • Presents ‘as new' and offers a highly competitive turn-key opportunity for entry into international historic rallying

The Escort Twin-Cam is one of Ford's most revered cars.  It formed the basis for their extremely successful works rally cars and achieved many international victories.  As a production car, it was introduced in 1968 in very limited numbers for homologation purposes, just 883 being built between 1968 and 1971, with many going on to be modified for competition use.
The car presented here is a genuine Escort Twin Cam built in October 1968 but was utilised as rally car soon after.  It was campaigned in clubman’s events, predominantly in the South of England from 1968 to 1973.
Building on this pedigree, the car was chosen to undergo a lengthy and exacting eight-year restoration.  It has recently re-emerged to be a true representation of an in-period 'Works' rally car, with many period features being wholly faithful and correct.  All the work carried out was to an exemplary standard regardless of time and cost - the end result is simply superb!

The car is now fitted with a Trevor Morris built, 2-litre alloy block dry-sump Ford/Cosworth BDG engine rated at 230bhp.  It is fitted with a steel crank and internals, L1 and BD3 camshafts, twin Weber 45 DCOE carburettors and a Tony Law 3-piece exhaust manifold.  The car is also fitted with an homologated heavy-duty ZF 5-speed gearbox built by Martin Jones and a disc-braked Atlas rear axle.
The car’s full technical specification can be viewed on the attached document.
It has been completed to FIA Appendix K specification, is a certified MSA Historic Stage Rally Vehicle with accompanying current MSA Historic Rally Vehicle Identity Form (HRVIF) and MSA Stage Rally Vehicle Logbook.
The car’s livery scheme is an accurate reproduction of the famous 1969 Circuit of Ireland winning Escort Twin Cam (BEV 782G) driven by the late, great Roger Clark and his co-driver Jim Porter.

Since the restoration, the car has been used very sparingly at selected historic road rallies and associated motorsport demonstration events including Donnington International Historic Festival and the Oulton Park Gold Cup.  As such, the vehicle presents ‘as new’ and offers its new owner a highly competitive turn-key opportunity for entry into the exciting world of international historic rallying.
All original receipts and invoices are available with the car (in three box files) plus a photographic record of restoration, re-build, and attendance at invitational shakedown events.
This really is a special car.  Our vendor commissioned and oversaw its restoration to the highest levels possible.  It deserves to be fully appreciated and enjoyed by a similar enthusiast.  If you simply want the best possible Mk1 Escort rally car, this one might just be too good to miss!
