1973 FIAT 128 COUPE

The Fiat 128 Coupè is a sports car built by the Turin house between 1971 and 1978. Between the end of the sixties and the beginning of the seventies, coupès derived from small and medium-sized sedans. Fiat had achieved a remarkable sales success with the “850 Coupé”, but was now in difficulty without having a valid sports model to propose an economic alternative to the expensive “124 Sports Coupé”, “Giulia GT” and “Fulvia Coupé” which, in those years, represented excellence in the market.
Although derived from the “128 saloons”, it has to be said that Fiat’s designers have made such a structural shift in the new coupé that it is difficult to find contact points between the two cars. Beginning from the floor, the step of which is reduced by 22 cm and equipped with a peripheral frame, to tighten the structure and improve weight distribution. The great attention to road holding is thanks to the sports suspension, completely redesigned for this model.
Two engines were offered for the model: the 1,166cc with 64bhp used also for the sedan version, or the 1,290cc, which was achieved by simply increased bore, which develops 75bhp. The bodywork is quite square, as they imposed the stylistic canons of the time, with a rise to the very elegant rear.
The two model classes in which the car was available to differ from slightly in outward appearance, especially in the type of wheels and in headlight configuration, with two rectangular headlights for the “S” (Sport) and four light headlights for the “SL” ( Luxury Sport). The interior of the “SL” is more refined, with softer adjustable seats, padded steering wheel, a central tunnel with storage compartment and full electronic counterbalance instrument and water thermometer.
The car that we have for sale today is a 128 Coupè SL, the most desirable version. Finished in green, this car transports the driver into the atmosphere of the 1970’s. This car comes to the sale with its Italian papers and is ready to be driven.
