1936 ALVIS SPEED T20 SD TOURER

A 1936 Alvis Speed T20 SD four-seat tourer, registration number BWK 778, chassis number 13085, engine number 13535, car number 13981, two tone blue. Chassis 13085 started life with a Charlesworth four door saloon body, finished with grey coachwork, grey leather interior and black wheels. The chassis was despatched from the Alvis works in March 1936 with subsequent delivery to Messrs Hartwell of Bournemouth on 27 June 1936 with a Mr Hector Hillaby of The Boltons London SW10 appearing on the guarantee. The Alvis passed through various hands as detailed in the history file in original saloon form until 1996/7 when the decision was taken to remove the original body due to its perilous state and replace it with a new ash frame and Vanden Plas 4.3 litre style aluminium tourer body by MGM Coachbuilding and Classic Metal Shaping. The Alvis is now presented is wonderful condition with a distinctive two tone coachwork, dark blue leather interior, black mohair hood, hood bag, side screens and full tonneau cover. 13085 has a matching chassis and engine as per the factory build sheet and is offered for auction with a comprehensive history file containing a copy of the original build sheet, Alvis correspondence, Automobile article (May 2002) showing the Alvis being worked on by David Gardiner of Classic Metal Shaping, Alvis SC/SD 20 secretary (Owners Club) correspondence, Alvis Bulletin No 539 (Jan/Feb 2013) where the car is featured on page 57 and back cover where the Alvis is featured in the RH Insurance advert, receipts, past MOTs, RF60 (cancelled), detailed history by various owners and sundry paperwork.  This beautifully presented grand tourer has formed part of a small private collection and has been used by the vendor on Continental and British tours, where he says that the overdrive gearbox has made the Alvis a pleasure to drive and quite capable of maintaining high touring speeds.  BWK 778 is now ready to be enjoyed by the next custodian and would be an enviable addition to any collection. RF60, V5C, MOT and tax exempt
