It is important to understand how the Alfa Romeo Montreal came about as its design and power plant are something to behold. Montreal, Canada, the setting for the 1967 World's Fair; the International and Universal Exposition or 'Expo 67' as it was known, Alfa Romeo was asked to provide an exhibit that would be representative of the automotive industry. The result was a fabulous prototype designed by Marcello Gandini of the Bertone styling house and named Montreal in honour of the event. The 105 series chassis and components were used as a basis, designed with ease of future production in mind. When the first production model was revealed in 1970, the styling was virtually identical to the World's Fair prototype but the biggest surprise was the power plant under the bonnet. Alfa Romeo used a detuned Type 33 racing V8 engine of 2,589cc capacity which produced over 200bhpcoupled to a ZF five-speed gearbox and modified 105 series rear axle were incorporated to good effect.

This is a very rare righthand drive Montreal, only 180 were manufactured in this format out of a total production run of 3,917. According to the DVLA records, 57 cars are still in the UK although it is known the majority of these are lefthand drive; it is certainly the only righthand drive example we have ever seen. Sadly being sold as part of a deceased estate, this Alfa Romeo was purchased by the registered keeper in 1986. After using the car for a few years, OLX 250P was put into storage and later dismantled in preparation for restoration. Everything was removed from the car, including all of the interior trim, glass, and some of the engine bay, although the engine and gearbox remained in the car, we are advised the engine was strong with good oil pressure and was not thought to have been in need of rebuilding. The bodywork has since been taken care of with any areas showing signs of corrosion removed and re-fabricated. The red paintwork appears to be to a high standard, with a good depth to the paint. All of the ancillaries have been painstakingly boxed up and everything appears to be present. The car is best described as being a rolling restoration project that just needs reassembling. Supplied with a collection of invoices and receipts, a V5 registration document and three previous MoT certificates, the last one expiring in March 1988 together with some technical data documents; this Alfa Romeo Montreal is a superb opportunity to own a 'forgotten supercar', offering power, presence and style in abundance, together with a delightful 'V8 soundtrack'.
