Arriving in 1963, the Sceptre was to be Humber’s last hurrah. Traditionally well-appointed, the Sceptre was initially based on the Super Minx from Hillman and intended to be a replacement for the Sunbeam Rapier, explaining the more modern and sportier design. The Mk III of 1967 formed part of the Rootes ‘Arrow’ range of motor cars and was one of the finest of the four models offered, with brightwork on the rear panel and wheel arches, a wood veneer dashboard and vinyl roof. Just under 44000 Mk III’s were produced before Chrysler purchased the Rootes Group and rebadged certain Hillman models in 1976.

This exceptional Mk III is finished in Aztec Gold with a black Everflex roof. Difficult to fault, the Humber is possibly the best on the market. The vendor describes the motor car as in “true time warp condition” and with the twin carburettor 1725cc engine and smooth automatic transmission, the Sceptre is certainly practical for modern motoring.

Apart from a small graze to the right-hand rear quarter bumper, the immaculate motor car is described as near perfect in most departments; we are informed that a stainless steel exhaust system and Radial Ply tyres are fitted. The odometer reading of 59370 miles is believed to be correct.

The vast history file contains amongst others the V5C registration certificate, MOT test certificates dating from 1999, road tax discs from 1980, sales brochures, two original handbooks, parts lists, road test reports, data and invoices. A quantity of sundry spares are included.
