The evolution of the Porsche 911 into the 997 was more evolutionary than revolutionary as it was with its predecessor the 996. The exterior underwent a redesign, bringing back some of the styling elements of the old classic 911s last seen with the 993. Most prominent was the return of classic circular headlights and the typical waist at the rear of the car. Although the rest of the design of the car wasn't changed that evidently, the 996 and the 997 only shared the same roof panel. This redesign was greatly appreciated by enthusiasts all around the world, who also supported that they were clearly distinguishable between the “independent” 997 911 and the Boxster/Cayman model. During 2009 Porsche updated the 997 line-up to include styling changes, a revised engine with direct injection and slightly increased displacement, and the introduction of the company's new “PDK” dual clutch transmission. As a result, the updated 997 models were faster, lighter and more fuel efficient than the outgoing versions, and enjoyed improved handling.

The 997 is the most commercially successful 911 of all time, having sold 100,000 units of the first generation alone between its introduction in 2005 and July 2007. It has also received mostly positive reviews from the worldwide motoring press; even British motoring journalist Jeremy Clarkson, a known detractor of Porsche cars, noted that the 997 will “make love to your fingertips and stir your soul.” Finished in Speed Yellow with a Raven Black hide interior, this Carrera 4 Cabriolet was delivered new in 2009 to Generation II specification, fitted with the new PDK gearbox. It has had just two owners from new, and shows a mere 28,000 recorded miles.
