1961 BIANCHINA TRANSFORMABLE - COYS 10/10/15 ASCOT

1961 BIANCHINA TRANSFORMABLE

Estimate: £15,000 - £20,000
Registration Number: Italian Registered
Chassis Number: 026726
Founded in 1899 by Eduardo Bianchi, the Bianchi Company made vehicles for 56 years. These included full-size cars, tanks, and trucks with Mercedes engines. But the factory was destroyed during the war and he had been unable to recover. In 1955, Milanese industrialist Ferrucio Quintavalle organized a new company involving Bianchi, Fiat, and the Pirelli Tire Company, called Autobianchi SpA. Trucks would continue to be manufactured by the firm, and motorcycles would be manufactured by Eduardo Bianchi SpA.
Two years later, at the Milan show, the first car to carry the name Autobianchi arrived. The Bianchina Transformabile (Convertible) was one of the first adaptations of the 500 Nuova, using its chassis, engine, and transmission, but with a very attractively styled coupe body with a roll-back roof, reminiscent of the French Vespa 400.
The 1960 Geneva show saw the debut of what was arguably the prettiest of all the models, the Bianchina Special Convertible. It was a little luxury car, with a luxury price, and it was immediately accepted by the fashionable jet setters as a second car or runabout. Designer Luigi Rapi drew a well-proportioned shape highlighted by a strong accent in the form of a side spear chrome moulding. Interior fittings were more attractive. The indicators were fitted separately below the headlights, not on the bumper guards. The cooling slots on the side below the doors and the chrome borders below the body edge were eliminated. The windscreen was more angular.
This lovely Bianchina Transformable is presented in light blue with a two tone coloured hood and it's equipped with expensive Borrani wheels. The interior is two tone white on black. A fun town car which one can enjoy open top motoring also.

101 - 1961 Rover 'Jet 1' Recreation

1961 ROVER "JET I" RECREATION

Estimate: No Reserve
Registration Number: UK Registered
Chassis Number: 650103491
On 8th March 1950, car manufacturers Rover unveiled the first car powered with a gas turbine engine. Named 'JET1', the two-seater model was powered by the same kind of engine used in a jet; its first public test drive was at the Silverstone racing circuit in Northamptonshire on 9th March 1950. The model being tested was only experimental, but the company hoped production models would be ready in the coming years. JET1 had been built with the engine positioned behind the seats, with air intake grilles on either side of the car and exhaust outlets on the top of the tail. During tests, the car reached top speeds of 90mph, with the engine running at 50,000rpm. The Royal Automobile Club recorded an acceleration speed of 0-60 mph in 14 seconds.
It proved difficult to build an engine small enough to fit in a car which would also be fuel efficient, so the gas turbine powered car was never going to be a viable alternative to the combustion engine. Rover went into decline in the late 1980s, in common with much of British heavy engineering; BMW took over the company in 1994. It was sold again in 2000 to Phoenix Venture Holdings. The company began trading as MG Rover, but it struggled to make a profit and went into receivership in 2005.
JET 1 is now on permanent display in the Making the Modern World gallery in the Science Museum. What we have here today is an accurate recreation of the original car. Built in the 1980s we understand and it was based on a low mileage Rover 90, using the car's original 2.5-litre straight six engine. The vendor has informed us that the car runs and drives.

Registration Number: Italian Registered
Chassis Number: 818630064180
The Lancia Fulvia does not need much introduction for the motorsport interested person. Also known as the tipo 818 it was Lancia´s competition car of choice during the late 60s and early 70s. It won the World Rally Championship in 1972 when it was replaced by the incredible Stratos.
Introduced at the Geneva Car show 1963 it remained in production an amazing 13 years fizzling out of production 1976. During this time it was of course updated many times and it came in three basic versions from the start. The Berlina or Saloon, the Coupe and the Sport. The Coupe was the car we have in the auction today and the Sport was the Zagato version of the Coupe.
The Fulvia we have on offer today is in very good overal condition and is presented in White, it also comes with Italian paperwork.
This is a great opportunity to buy one of the most iconic rally Lancia models and certainly one of the prettiest models to come from the famous Italian marque.

1938 BMW 327 CABRIOLET - COYS 26-09-15 FRANKFURT

COMING TO AUCTION
FROM
A257_online.jpg

144 - 1938 BMW 327 Cabriolet

1938 BMW 327 CABRIOLET

Estimate: €140,000 - €170,000
Registration Number: German Registered
Chassis Number: 73246
The BMW 327 is a medium sized touring coupé produced by the Bavarian firm between 1937 and 1941, and again produced after 1945. It sat on a shortened version of the BMW 326 chassis. The first 327, launched in 1937, was a cabriolet. In 1938, this was joined by a fixed head coupé version. The car was shorter and lower than its sedan counterpart, but shared the famous BMW grill and a streamlined form representative of the more progressive designs of the 1930s.
This superb BMW 327 Cabriolet left the factory at Eisenach on 20 June 1938 to its first owner in Rotterdam. Its original colour, according to the BMW archives - was dark green.
The car remained in Holland and has been on the road until the 1950's when an exchange engine (501) was installed by BMW Holland. This type of engine was an improved execution of the pre-war 327 engine, with an increased power output of 72 HP. The current owner purchased #73246 in 1990 from the BMW dealership in De Breukelen, and imported it to Germany where a ground up restoration was undertaken, using the best available specialists in Bavaria, photo-documentation of which is available in the car's file. The original body was overhauled and repainted in dark green over black; the car was retrimmed in brown leather and a new wooden frame was built and installed.
The engine was rebuilt and BMW 327 downdraft carburettors installed to add additional HP. A Volvo 5-speed gearbox was installed; however, the original gearbox is available and comes with the car. The rear springs were strengthened and new pressurized shock absorbers for better roadholding were installed.
The fuel tank was replaced by a stainless steel one, the radiator was replaced and all instruments were restored, and the electric system was changed into 12 V.
So equipped, the owner travelled with this car throughout Europe, ranging between Sicily in the south and Norway to the north. This is a superb driver's car in excellent condition, coming from a BMW collector who has carefully maintained it for the last twenty-five years, and as such is not to be missed.

1984 LAMBORGHINI COUNTACH 5000 S - COYS AUCTION 26-09-15

A257_online.jpg

146 - 1984 Lamborghini Countach 5000 S- 1 registered owner from new

1984 LAMBORGHINI COUNTACH 5000 S

Estimate: €400,000 - €500,000
Registration Number: German Registered
Chassis Number: ZA9C00500ELA12675
Few would deny that Lamborghini's Countach is the quintessential supercar. It was built by a talented and passionate team of designers and engineers with the purpose of being the most extrovert and outrageous car available for the street. As a replacement for the fabulous Miura this was a tall order, but there can be no doubt that they succeeded, and even today, though there are more modern cars and faster cars (a tiny number), it is the Countach which will draw people's attention like no other car. The stunning styling was by Bertone's Marcello Gandini and when the first prototype was revealed as project 112, one of the factory workers exclaimed “Countach”, a local Piemontese expletive, roughly translated as “Wow!” The name stuck.
Incorporating race car technology, it was an automotive tour de force. With its back-to-front longitudinally mounted V12 engine and gearbox, independent double wishbone suspension all round and rigid space frame, it was easily the fastest production car around, reaching a claimed 190mph.
Like its predecessor, the car quickly found favour with enthusiastic drivers and wealthy playboys alike. One of Lamborghini's most loyal customers was Formula One race team owner Walter Wolf, who owned several examples, one of which was modified for him by the factory to be quicker still. Suspension revisions allowed the fitting of much wider wheels mounted with Pirelli's brand new P7 tyre, designed especially for this car. Flared wheel arches sprouted from the flanks to cover these enormous new wheels, the likes of which had never before been seen on the road, and at the front an air dam was fitted, while a huge delta wing sprouted from the rear bootlid. With engine modifications, Wolf reckoned his car was fast enough to be competitive at Le Mans. Lessons learned from Wolf's car were put into practice with the introduction of the S variant, essentially a cosmetic replica.
This is the second Countach built out of the 5000 S series, and has had only one registered owner since it left the factory at Santa Agatha in February 1984, headed to Germany.
It was taken off the road in 1990 and carefully stored in a dehumidified garage ever since, but nevertheless run on borrowed dealers' plates, as well as repaired and serviced as it should. Today its mileage is in the region of 51,800 kilometres, including just 1,500 kilometres since 1990.
The car is finished in white, with white leather interior, white wheels and rear spoiler.
Apart from regular services, the following work has been done to the car, while in storage: the engine was taken out and rebuilt, the head gaskets were replaced and a new clutch was fitted. Immediately prior to its consignment with Coys, the owner had the whole car mechanically revised, to ensure that it runs as well as it looks. An itemised list of this work, including new tyres, battery, new master cylinders &c., is in the car's file.
Described as a great beauty, and ready to be used and enjoyed right now, this is an incredible opportunity to buy a single owner 5000 S – arguably the best model to own out all Lamborghini Countachs. A superb supercar indeed, and totally accident free.

Crisp, classless and chic, the Golf was not only an object lesson in industrial design, it also freed Volkswagen from the shackles of the obsolete Beetle and went on to propel them straight to the top of the class in the aspirational new world of the Eighties.
Pick of the crop was the Golf GTi, the archetypal ‘hot hatch’ which came out in 1976. Quick, nimble and beautifully made, it had a peppy 1.8-litre engine whose 112bhp could whisk it up to 60 in 8.3 seconds and keep it flying along at three figure speeds for hours on end without fuss.
In 1979 a convertible version was launched, developed and produced by Karmann, who specialised in low volume production. As it was built outside of the regular production system, the Golf Cabriolet never received the more rounded styling given to the Golf Mk2, retaining instead the sharper profile of the Mk1 all the way through its production life, selling alongside its updated hatchback sibling.
This very smart and nicely original 105,000 mile GTi Convertible has spent the last few years tucked away in storage patiently waiting for the vendor to complete a ground-up restoration of his Beetle. Repainted around five years ago in much sought-after metallic black, it retains its original hood which is in good condition.
The majority of Golf GTis got modified and abused later in life as they worked their way down the food-chain, although this example appears to have avoided such treatment and remains to standard specification, including the correct ‘Basket’ alloy wheels. It is currently being comprehensively recommissioned and is due to carry a 12 month MOT by the time of the sale.
Original Karmann Convertibles look ridiculously good value when compared to their Mk1 tin-top stablemate, a situation which doesn’t make sense and is unlikely to last for long we feel.
